The Ami is a rubbish car, if you could call it one. But it's an entirely loveable object. It's not fun to drive, but it is fun to use. In a city, at least. There's a joy in its simplicity.

This car has a 4 door saloon (sedan) type body styled by Flaminio Bertoni with a front positioned engine supplying power to the front wheels. The 0.6 litre engine is a naturally aspirated, overhead valve, 2 cylinder that develops 31.5 bhp (31.9 PS/23.5 kW) of power at 5750 rpm, and maximum torque of 41.2 N·m (30.4 lb·ft/4.2 kgm) at 4000 rpm.

But that's not why you're rubbing your eyes looking at this visually challenging Ami 8; it's the only other French vintage car I've found parked on the streets we roam on foot. But…I'm thrilled with my fate; the Ami was very high on my list of cars I was hoping to find (after a Peugeot 404), even if its not the earlier and more bizarre Ami 6.

The front end was revised on the Ami 8, creating it presumably as Citroen had intended it. The wagon remained, pretty much the same as ever, as it would until 1979. In 1973, Citroen introduced the final upgrade to the Ami, a four cylinder engine. The new motor was a flat four based off of the old 2CV twin, a testament to Citroen's financial.
